Despite tough competition from Gadar 2, Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi’s OMG 2 has managed to make an impact at the box office. The film has crossed the coveted Rs 100 crore mark on its ninth day. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the Amit Rai directorial earned approximately Rs 10.5 crore (nett) on Saturday, taking its total collection to Rs 101.58 crore.

As reported by the website, the film had a 45.94 percent occupancy in the Hindi-speaking market. Most audiences thronged theatres during night shows, followed by evening, afternoon and morning. Gadar 2, on the other hand, is inching towards Rs 350 crore in India, and Rs 400 crore globally.

A sequel to the 2012 film OMG – Oh My God (starring Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar), OMG 2 features Yami Gautam along with Akshay and Pankaj Tripathi. While Akshay is seen as the messenger of Lord Shiva, Pankaj essays the role of his devotee, and Yami Gautam plays a lawyer. OMG 2 revolves around a middle-class father trying to raise awareness about sex education among the young generation. However, the film’s team was left disappointed after it received an ‘A’ certificate from the CBFC.

Talking about the same, Pankaj Tripathi shared in a chat with indianexpress.com, “When I came to know that the film has received an ‘A’ certificate by the CBFC, even I was taken aback, surprised. When we were doing the film, at no point, did we feel that it was an ‘A’ certificate film.”

OMG 2 earned majorly positive reviews even from critics.  Indian Express’ Shubhra Gupta wrote in her review, “The film never wavers in its intent, sneaking in taboo topics in its laugh-out-loud comic tone, and for that it ropes in the gods, which is a brilliant ploy: you get them on your side, you can get away with anything, even things that would ordinarily be deemed ‘ashleel’ (vulgar).”
