Rahul Gandhi in Bhatta-Parsaul, meets families of farmers
NEW DELHI: Signalling a stepped-up campaign against Uttar Pradesh's Mayawati government, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday reached Bhatta-Parsaul in Greater Noida and met families of farmers.
The visit comes about two months after Rahul was detained by the Maya government in Bhatta-Parsaul, where he had gone to oppose the police action against farmers during their protests against land acquisitions.
Rahul is also expected to address a "kisan mahapanchyat" in Aligarh on July 9 to raise the issues of farmers including land acquisition.
The party had earlier planned to hold the rally in Bhatta-Parsaul village in Greater Noida - the epicentre of protest by farmers in May over acquisition of their land - but had to shift the venue to Aligarh as it was denied permission by the state government for Bhatta-Parsaul.
